Targmanchats Vank (Monastery of the Translators) is located in the village of Aygeshat, Armavir province — formerly Hajighara. The monastery is dated to the 7th century; it was Bishop Mesrop Smbatyan who named it "Targmanchats."
In architectural studies, the Targmanchats of Aygeshat is classified among the group of village-type, centrally-planned domed churches. It is especially distinguished by its dome system.
Until 1926 the domed section of the church was still standing. It later collapsed entirely, and today the monastery lies in ruin. The eastern apse, three-quarter round niches of the entrance, and a small part of the southeastern room have survived. The church has a stepped base running around its perimeter. The corner square rooms were covered by barrel vaults. The transition from the domed square to the dome — which had a cylindrical interior and an octagonal exterior drum — was achieved by means of squinches. The construction was so accomplished that even after the collapse, the single standing arch long continued to bear part of the drum.
It is presumed that the church's interior once had painted decoration as well, since faint traces of pigment have survived.
