The Mrgadzor Khach (Cross of Mrgadzor) is located in Syunik province, on the territory of the old settlement of Khot village, at the foot of a huge vertical cliff. The church is a small, single-nave structure, partly resting against the rock environment. It is about 10 m long and 6 m wide.
The area in front of the church is very steep. According to local testimony, in ancient times there was a small level area there, where the feast of the Ascension was celebrated with splendid ceremonies.
According to a five-line inscription made about the church, the Mrgadzor church was commissioned by Bahadur Bek (Pahatur Pak), son of Malik-Hakhnazar of Kashatagh, resident in the village of Khanatsakh, and his mother, Mahpari, wife of Malik-Hakhnazar, in 1700.
In the masonry of the Mrgadzor church's wall, an older inscription made on a long, narrow slab stone was discovered. According to that inscription, it is presumed that the church once bore the name Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God).
In the area of the Mrgadzor Khach, architectural fragments from the early Christian period have been found.
