Yeritsavank is located in the Kapan district of Syunik province, about 2 km northeast of the village of Artsvanik, on a rocky, elevated section of one of the eastern mountain spurs of the Bargushat range. It is a 6th–11th-century monastic complex and is currently in a semi-ruined state. The monastery was founded by Yeritsak, Metropolitan of Syunik.
According to tradition, Yeritsavank received its name from that very clergyman. However, personal names are usually derived from place names, and not the reverse. It is therefore presumed that the clergyman took his name from the monastery. The monastery is also recorded under the name Artsvanik.
The complex's main structure is the Surb Stepanos Nakhavka (Protomartyr) church. In state records it is listed as a 6th-century single-nave, vaulted hall. The church is about 20 m long and 7 m wide, and is built of roughly dressed basalt stones. Besides the church, the complex included a gavit, a belfry, and a chapel.
On the territory of Artsvanik, traces of habitation from the 2nd–1st millennia BC, the ruins of an Urartian-period fortress, and burial fields have been recorded.
