Dashtadem Fortress

Dashtadem Fortress

Dashtadem Fortress rises on a low hill near the village of Dashtadem, not far from Talin. Its oldest core is medieval—elements go back well over a thousand years—while the imposing circular outer wall with round towers was added in the 18th century under a Persian commander. Inside the walls stands an early church and the remains of various structures. The fortress controlled the surrounding plain and trade routes toward the south and west. Largely free of crowds, Dashtadem offers atmospheric ruins to explore at leisure and fine views across the open countryside toward Mount Aragats.
