Dashtadem Fortress

Dashtadem Fortress

Dashtadem Fortress stands on a low hill next to the village of Dashtadem, close to the town of Talin in Armenia's Aragatsotn region.

Its oldest parts are medieval and go back more than a thousand years. The big circular outer wall, with its round towers, was added much later — in the 18th century, under a Persian commander. From here the fortress watched over the plain and the trade roads heading south and west.

Inside the walls you will find an early church and the remains of several old buildings. Dashtadem is usually quiet, so you can wander the ruins at your own pace and enjoy wide views across the countryside toward Mount Aragats. If you like castles, pair it with nearby Amberd Fortress, higher up the mountain.
