Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory
The Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory was founded in 1946 by the renowned astrophysicist Viktor Ambartsumian and remains one of the most important scientific centers in the Caucasus. Set on the southern slopes of Mount Aragats at about 1,500 m, it is home to a striking 2.6-meter telescope and several smaller instruments. The observatory made major contributions to the study of stellar associations and active galactic nuclei. Visitors can tour the grounds, see the historic telescopes and, by arrangement, take part in evening sky observations. Ambartsumian's former home now serves as a museum dedicated to his work.
