Lchashen Bronze Age Site
Lchashen, on the northwestern side of Lake Sevan, is one of the most important prehistoric sites in Armenia. A large cyclopean fortress and an extensive necropolis here belong to a culture sometimes linked to the early Etiuni kingdom, flourishing in the Bronze Age and continuing into the Urartian period. When the lake's level fell in the 20th century, archaeologists uncovered extraordinary finds, including wooden ox-carts and chariots, bronze weapons, and richly furnished tombs, many now displayed in the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan. The hillfort and surrounding fields preserve traces of this deep past, offering a window into life on the Sevan basin thousands of years ago.
