In the official list of named geographic features of the Republic of Armenia, Apakeblur is registered as a hill belonging to the Getazat community.
The name "Dvin Pyramid" came into circulation later and is connected with a hypothesis put forward by the researcher Vazgen Gevorgyan. He considered the hill to be an artificial, pyramid-shaped structure, built similarly to Maya pyramids, and proposed various functional interpretations. However, this view has not been confirmed by archaeological excavation or academic publication.
According to the assessment of archaeologist Professor Hamlet Petrosyan, Apakeblur is a natural formation, not a human-built pyramid. In his view, the structure that has survived on the hill's summit is probably a Muslim mausoleum (tomb) from the late 13th or early 14th century.
