The Surb Kirakos church is located in the village of Arzni, Kotayk province. It is a 6th-century four-apse church.
Surb Kirakos has survived in relatively good condition, and its overall spatial composition has come down to us almost unchanged. At the base of the structure is a central square measuring 2.32 × 2.32 m, surrounded on four sides by semicircular niches. The transition from the drum to the dome was achieved by means of eight further, smaller squinches — this two-stage transition is one of Surb Kirakos's most interesting structural features.
The church's only entrance is on the western side. It has round windows, which are not found in other Armenian monuments. Among its other distinctive features are an octagonal exterior outline and a square base. The façade is undecorated on the exterior. The church is built of regular courses of local pink tufa.
