Located in Ararat Village, St. Hakob Church was built in 1866 at the initiative of Armenians who had migrated from Maku in Persia. The church reflects the history of the Armenian community that settled in the area and remains an important part of the village's cultural landscape.
The building follows a three-nave basilica plan. Six pillars arranged in two rows divide the interior into three longitudinal sections. A semicircular apse forms the eastern end of the church, with rectangular vestries positioned on either side. A baptismal font is preserved beside the northern vestry, while arched niches enrich the walls surrounding the sanctuary.
The church can be entered from three sides, north, west, and south. Its walls were built using locally sourced grey travertine, while the interior surfaces were traditionally finished with lime plaster. Together, these architectural features reflect the building traditions of Armenian ecclesiastical architecture in the region during the 19th century.
