Saint Hovhannes Church, Artashat
The Church of Saint Hovhannes (St. John) is the principal church of Artashat, the capital of the Ararat province. A relatively recent construction in traditional Armenian style, it serves the town's community with regular services and stands amid spacious, well-maintained grounds. Faced in local stone with a tall central drum and dome, it carries on the long architectural lineage of the region while meeting the needs of a modern parish; its interior is tastefully decorated and welcoming. As the central place of worship in the provincial seat, it makes a natural and pleasant stop for travelers passing through Artashat on the way to Khor Virap or the Khosrov reserve.
