The Paruyr Sevak House-Museum is located in the village of Zangakatun, Ararat province, at Paruyr Sevak Street, 1st Lane, House 1. The decision to create the museum was made after the poet's death, in 1972, and it opened in 1981, on the 10th anniversary of Sevak's death.
The museum's design was created by architect Jim Torosyan, one of Paruyr Sevak's close friends. The design called for a complete complex — a vestibule-hall, several exhibition halls, a chapel-belfry, and an amphitheater. However, the plan was not fully realized, and the vestibule that was built today serves as the main exhibition hall.
The museum grounds are not limited to the exhibition hall alone. They also include Paruyr Sevak's paternal home and the orchard he planted. In the orchard, beneath his father's apricot tree, Paruyr Sevak and his wife, Nelli Menagharishvili, are buried.
The museum's holdings preserve more than 1,982 museum items, of which 880 are classified in the scientific-auxiliary fund. The collection includes documents, photographs, and household items. On display are Sevak's personal belongings — his desk, typewriter, pens, books, certificates, manuscripts, photographs, and samples of furniture and household items.
The museum organizes not only its main exhibition but also literary, educational, and cultural events.
