Mayravank Monastery, Solak

Mayravank Monastery, Solak

Mayravank is located in Kotayk province, about 3 km north of the village of Solak, on a plateau of the Tsaghkunyats mountains. The monument's history is linked to the 7th-century church figure Hovhan Mayravanetsi, also known as Mayragometsi — it was he who founded the monastery in the 7th century.

The main surviving structure is the Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) church, dated to the 11th–12th centuries and noted as being built of dressed basalt. During excavations, a column capital dated to the 5th–7th centuries was found opposite the church's entrance. At the same time, specialists note that no standing early medieval structures have survived at Mayravank.

Following excavations in 2021, restoration work was carried out on the territory of the monastic complex, completed in 2023.
