Shirak
Lake Arpi National Park is a 250 km² protected wetland on the Shirak plateau near the Georgian border, established in 2009 around a Ramsar-listed reservoir at roughly 2,000 meters elevation, home to over 670 plant species and the world's largest colony of Armenian gulls. Horseback excursions here are arranged informally through the park's information center in Paghakn village.
What people can do there: Ride out across the high plateau grasslands around the lake, combine the ride with birdwatching, hiking one of the park's four marked trails, picnicking, or fishing, and take in a landscape of lake, mountain peaks, and river gorge
