Wakeboarding in Armenia

Updated at April 21, 2026

If you have already tried flyboarding, the next step in your Armenian summer adventure is wakeboarding. It is like snowboarding, but on the water! Being pulled by a high-speed boat across the mirror-like surface of Lake Sevan is one of the most exciting ways to experience Armenia’s "Blue Pearl."

Where Can You Do Wakeboarding?

Lake Sevan is the center of the wakeboarding scene. Because the lake is so large, you can find smooth water even on busy days.

  1. The Sevan Peninsula: This is the best place to start. Most professional clubs, like Sky Club Armenia, operate from here. They have specialized boats designed to create the perfect wake for jumping.
  2. Wishup Shore: Located on the eastern side of the lake (near Shoghakat), this spot offers a more "chill" vibe with great beach infrastructure. It is perfect if you want to combine wakeboarding with a day of relaxation.
  3. Azat Reservoir: For a different view, some operators offer wakeboarding at the Azat Reservoir near Garni. The red cliffs surrounding the water make for incredible photos.

How Much Does It Cost?

Wakeboarding is very affordable in Armenia, especially since the equipment is usually top-tier.

  1. A 30-minute session: Costs around 35,000 AMD (about $90 USD).
  2. A 1-hour session: Costs around 48,000 AMD (about $125 USD).
  3. What is included: This price covers the speedboat rental, all equipment (board, life jacket, wetsuit), and a lesson from a professional instructor to help you stand up for the first time.

The Experience: What to Expect

Wakeboarding is easier to learn than it looks! Your instructor will teach you how to sit in the water and let the boat pull you up. Once you are standing, you will glide at speeds of 30–40 km/h.

The best part is crossing the "wake" (the waves behind the boat). Beginners can practice carving left and right, while more experienced riders can use the waves to catch air and perform tricks.

Pro-Tips for a Great Ride

  1. Go Early: Lake Sevan is famous for its morning "glass." Between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, the water is perfectly flat, which is ideal for wakeboarding. After noon, the wind usually picks up and creates waves.
  2. The "Relax" Rule: The biggest mistake beginners make is trying to pull against the boat. Just keep your arms straight, knees bent, and let the boat do the work!

Ask for Video: Most instructors carry a GoPro. Since wakeboarding looks very "cool" in slow motion, it’s worth asking them to film a few of your runs.
