Chinar restaurant

“We had booked a table for four. We arrived to find a table set for three. The first red flag of the evening. Two waiters had to be called to set the fourth place on the table. The wine, a bottle of red Tushpa (excellent), arrived promptly but without the bottles of plain and sparkling water we had ordered. They arrived 10 minutes later after we had drawn the attention of a waiter to their absence. The starters, mainly salads, were very good. Three of the main dishes our party ordered were not available, although this was just after 8 pm. We had to choose alternatives. The worst was that all main dishes arrived at different times, so that by the time the fourth dish arrived the other members of our party had already finished theirs. Our hapless waiter, who was trying to be as accommodating as possible, felt embarrassed and couldn't explain the erratic service from the kitchen. This was our fifth visit to this restaurant. There were inconsistencies in the service in the past, but we had decided - generously - to give it another go, simply because the food is very good. So is the decor, tastefully conceived. And the restaurant doesn't suffer from the bane of most other Yerevan restaurants, namely an inordinately loud background music that stifles conversation around the table. We shall not return to this restaurant.”

The service was attentive and classy - great recommendations from the waiters customized for our group of 15 people. The restaurant itself is lovely - upscale and elegant without being stuffy. “It's not usual to start a review by commenting on a side dish, but the fact that the mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious might give an idea of how careful and professional this restaurant is in its approach to good eating. We had dolma, aveluk salad, bell peppers stuffed with cheese, dessert, and everything was way above average, making of Chinar one of the best, if not the best, restaurants in Yerevan. The barman mixed perfect cocktails, the service at the table was top notch (i.e. efficient and polite). What else to add?”

“This restaurant surprised us with its vision of traditional Armenian dishes. The Chef Susanna and Her team turn every dish into a gourmet experience! You have to try everything: veal, chicken, fish, salads, all accompanied by an excellent wine selection. And I have to mention two special things on their menu - "doughnut from aunt with choratan" and cake from halva and mascarpone!!! Big thanks to whole team!”

There was no live music when we were there and I was happy about it. They have a lot of traditional dishes and most of customers were local men, celebrating something. But it wasn't loud. You can't miss opportunity to feel that unreal testy delicious food, even if you are gonna stay at Yerevan just 1 day, trust me it's worth to try a Chinar Restaurant food.”
